GEORGE TOWN, GRAND CAYMAN, CAYMAN ISLANDS — On Tuesday the field for the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic women's college basketball tournament, was announced by Caymax Sports Ltd. Niagara women's basketball will be among the eight-team field that will make the trip to the Cayman Islands in November.
Niagara will be joined by LSU, UConn, UCLA, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Tulane, and Virginia in the first-year tournament.
Niagara Head Coach Jada Pierce is excited to compete against some of the top competition in women's basketball.
"We are excited to part of the Inaugural Cayman Islands Classic on the women's side. We feel this will be a great challenge for us to play some of the top teams in the country!" Pierce said.
The Purple Eagles are coming off a historic season that ended with the program's first postseason tournament appearance as they earned a bid to the WNIT. Niagara set a new program record with 16 MAAC wins while finishing with a 18-13 record overall. The Purple Eagles made it to the MAAC Semifinals for the second straight season.
The eight-team tournament will be held Nov. 24-25 at John Gray Gymnasium, just minutes away from world famous Seven Mile Beach.
