Rosie Gomez, Canisius

Rosie Gomez had a week to remember, driving in three go-ahead runs to help Canisius to four conference wins and five victories on the week. Gomez hit a walk-off home run in the eighth inning in game one Saturday to help the Griffs come back and defeat Fairfield 4-3 before slugging a two-run homer in the first inning of game two in the 7-1 win. On Sunday, Gomez had a pair of RBI doubles in the Griffs 6-1 win over Iona to complete the sweep. For the week, Gomez went 9-20 with nine RBI, two doubles and two home runs with a .455 on-base percentage and a .850 slugging percentage.
Pitcher of the Week
Megan Giese, Canisius
Jr., Buffalo, NY, Orchard Park
Megan Giese was dominant in the circle in all five of her appearances during the week, going 2-0 with two saves while pitching to a 1.31 ERA. Giese earned her first save of the week against St. Bonaventure after hitting a go-ahead pinch-hit grand slam in the seventh before striking out the side. During the weekend, the righty struck out 10 batters in her starts against both Fairfield and Iona, picking up the wins. On the week, Giese struck out 30 batters in 21.1 innings of work, allowing just four earned runs on nine hits and four walks.
Rookie of the Week
Haley Ahr, Marist
R-Fr., Union Beach, NJ, St. John Vianney
Back-to-back Rookie of the Week honoree, Haley Ahr, hit .667 with a 1.817 OPS (1.111 slug, .706 on base) in Marist's four games this past week. Additionally, she drove in five runs, stole four bases, drew six walks, scored two runs, and belted a double and a home run. She hit safely in all four games. In the first game of a doubleheader at UMass on April 12, Ahr singled, stole a base, and had two sacrifice flies in Marist's 9-3 win. In game two, she singled, walked, and stole two bases. In a doubleheader at Siena on April 15, Ahr reached safely nine times in 10 plate appearances. In game one, she reached safely all six times by going 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, a stolen base, and three walks. She homered, scored two runs, and walked twice in Marist's 8-5 win in game two. Ahr also handled all 27 fielding chances she had flawlessly (24 putouts, three assists) while splitting time between shortstop and first base.
The 2023 MAAC Softball Championship is a six-team double elimination tournament taking place between May 10-14, 2023. The championship will be hosted by the highest seed.
