Quinnipiac Takes Home 2023 MAAC Women’s Golf Championship

Lake Buena Vista, FL (Apr. 23, 2023) –Quinnipiac University claimed the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Golf Championship Sunday afternoon at Disney’s Palm Golf Course.
 
The Quinnipiac Women’s Golf team took home its third consecutive MAAC Championship after shooting an 873 over the three-round tournament. The Bobcats held the lead each round of the tournament to cruise to the title.  Quinnipiac saved its best team performance for the last round, shooting 290 as a team.
 
Quinnipiac’s, Fuge Zhang, led all players atop the women’s individual leaderboard with an overall score of 214(-2). Zhang would take home this year’s McLeod Trophy with her strong performance.  Fellow Bobcats, Kaylee Sakoda and Leeyen Peralta, would finish just behind Zhang on the leaderboard in the second and third positions with scores of 215(-1) and 216 (E).
 
University at Albany freshman, Lucia Esteban, claimed MAAC Rookie of the year honors after recording an overall score of 224(+8), which was good enough to place eighth overall on the individual leaderboard. Esteban recorded the second highest score for UAlbany helping to lead the Great Dane’s to a second place finish.
 
 
Fairfield’s Doug Holub was named 2023 MAAC Coach of the Year after leading the Stags to a fourth-place finish. The Stags would place one member on the 2023 All-MAAC team with, Julia Towne, occupying the fifth place on this year’s team.
