Canisius’ Strong and Manhattan’s Rende Named Hercules Tires MAAC Student-Athletes of the Week

Edison, NJ (Apr. 26, 2023) – Canisius’ Jackson Strong and Manhattan’s Lauren Rende have been named the Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Week.

Strong has emerged as a potent bat in the Golden Griffins lineup during his sophomore campaign, boasting a .337 batting average and .618 slugging percentage in 24 games played this season. He is tied for the team lead with six home runs while ranking second on the squad in both hits (29) and RBI (20). A native of West Seneca, Strong is a physical education major at Canisius.

Rende recently surpassed 100 career hits and leads the team in average (.305), runs scored (18), home runs (5), slugging (.549), and on-base (.389). The shortstop is a two-time, soon-to-be three-time MAAC All-Academic Team selection and was a Second Team All-MAAC selection last season on the infield. Rende has also reached base in 16 straight games. The Ardsley, N.Y. native is a physical education major at Manhattan.
