POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (Apr. 29, 2023) – Wagner College and Long Island University advance to the final round of the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo Championship to be held at Marist’s, McCann Natatorium on Sunday April 30.

Wagner defeated Iona in the first semifinal match of the day at the 2023 MAAC Water Polo Championship by a score of 27-11. The top seeded Seahawks controlled the game from the start en route to clinching another finals appearance.
 
Wagner Notes
 
-Wagner led Iona 16-5 at the half.
-Andrea Arias led the Seahawks with six goals.
-Skye Nankerivs shot 4/4 in the first half to record four goals, Nankervis ended the contest with five goals.
-In the game Wagner led Iona in shots on goal by a margin of 32 – 18.
-Wagner has won 8 out of the last 10 MAAC titles.
-Wagner advances to the final round of the 2023 Water Polo Championship, where they will face No. 3 LIU.
 
 
Iona notes
-Lola Trujillo was 2/2 in the first half to lead the Iona attack early on.
-Jordan van Reeken led the Gaels with five shots on goal and two goals scored on the day.
-Kaya Hart recorded two goals in the contest.
-Iona finishes the season with a record of 17-13.

-Marist had three players record two goals (Shinae Carrington, Viktoria Orlova, and Rachel Dean).
-Viktoria Orlova led Marist with five shots on goal, scoring two goals in the match.
- Freshman goalkeeper Inés Sánchez totaled seven saves.
-Marist finishes the season with a record of 23-10, and a share of the MAAC Regular Season title.

-LIU scored the first two goals of the contest.
-LIU led 5-3 at the end of the 1^st quarter.
-Diba Peiravani started the game out 2/2.
-LIU led Marist 7-4 at the half.
-Elena Camarena led LIU with three goals in the win.
-LIU secures the first upset of the 2023 MAAC Water Polo Championship
-LIU advances to the final round of the 2023 MAAC Water Polo Championship where they will face off against defending champions, Wagner College, tomorrow at 1pm.
