FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Back with one of the top defenses in the nation heading into the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament this Friday, the Fairfield University women's lacrosse team saw a pair of Stags selected as All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine on Tuesday evening. Caroline Mangan and Lindsey Barnes were each named All-America Honorable Mentions after the Stags claimed the 2023 MAAC Championship, their fifth consecutive league title.
The Stags' defense duo helped to lead the Stags to a 14-4 record (7-1 MAAC) heading into Friday's first-round matchup with Loyola Maryland, with the Stags currently sitting sixth in the country with 11.78 caused turnovers per game. Both Barnes and Mangan help that effort with 39 and 38 respectively to pace the team and sit 11th and 15th among all Division I players in caused turnovers.
A pair of First-Team All-MAAC Defenders in 2023, the duo was part of a two-game effort in the conference postseason that saw the Stags outscore their two opponents 31-11 including just four goals in the championship game, while shutting Siena out for the duration of the second half. In those two contests, Mangan tallied 19 draw controls, seven caused turnovers and five draw controls, including 10 draws and six forced turnovers in the title bout, after which she was named the 2023 MAAC Tournament MVP.
Fairfield women's lacrosse head to Baltimore, Md. this Friday for the opening round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament against No. 8 Loyola Maryland with opening draw slated for 3:00 p.m.
