BUFFALO, NY (May. 12, 2023) – The 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Championship continued Friday, May 12 at Canisius College’s Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, NY. No.1 Canisius College, No. 3 Marist College, No. 4 Fairfield University, and No. 6 Iona University were all in action on day 3 as the final four teams remaining in the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship.

2023 MAAC Softball Championship- Day 3
 
No. 3 Marist took down No.1 Canisius 6-5 in the semifinal round of the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship. With the win the Red Foxes earn a spot in tomorrow’s title game where they will face the elimination bracket champion.
 
Marist notes
 
- Marist held the early lead (2-0 in the third inning).
- Hannah Brock recorded her third HR in her last 17 AB’s.
- Kiley Myers pitched 4.1 innings for The Red Foxes facing
-Calista Phippen faced 10 batters in 2.1 innings, recording three strikeouts to earn the win.
-The Red Foxes advance to the title game for the first time since 2019.

Canisius Notes
 
-Rosie Gomez recorded two hits for Canisius in the match.
-In four at bats on the day Christie McGee-Ross totaled three hits (1 HR, 3 RBIs).
-Megan Giese recorded three strikeouts in four innings pitched for the Golden Griffs.
-With the loss Canisius moved to the elimination bracket where they would face No. 6 Iona in a 4:45pm matchup.

2023 MAAC Softball Championship- Day 3
 
No. 6 Iona defeated No. 4 Fairfield in a 2-0 game to advance to the final of the elimination bracket. Iona matched up with No. 1 Canisius in the next round of the elimination bracket in a 4:15pm contest.
 
 
Iona Notes
 
- Iona’s Kara Zazzaro broke the Iona program record for strikeouts (803).
- Zazzaro recorded seven strikeouts in a shutout victory, facing 22 batters.
-Emma Capuano totaled two hits on the day, with a HR and RBI.
- With the win, Iona advanced to the final game of the elimination bracket against Canisius.
 
Fairfield Notes
 
- Allie Bridgman faced 25 batters, recording four strikeouts in a full game pitched.
-Fairfield was held scoreless in the game, recording one hit on the afternoon.
- Fairfield finishes the season with an overall record of 22-25.

In the final game of the day No.1 Canisius faced off with No. 6 Iona for the elimination bracket final. Top seed Canisius took down Iona 4-2 and will earn a trip to the 2023 MAAC Championship final for a chance to defend their crown.
 
 
Canisius Notes
 
- Canisius got on the scoreboard in the first inning and never trailed in the contest.
-Saige Alfaro and Sophia Recrosio led the Golden Griffins with two hits apiece.
- Pitcher Megan Giese earned her 200^th strikeout of the season, becoming the second player in program history to reach that milestone.
-Canisius earns a rematch with No. 3 Marist for the MAAC title tomorrow at 11am.
 
Iona Notes
 
-Allie Taylor had two hits on the day including the lone HR for the Gaels on the afternoon.
-Kara Zazzaro totaled five strikeouts in three innings on the mound.
 -Samantha Rieb recorded two strikeouts in her three innings on the mound for the Gaels.
-Iona finishes the season with an overall record of 21-31-1.
