Marist Captures 2023 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship

Riverdale, NY (May. 6, 2023) – The title game of the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Lacrosse Championship took place on Saturday, May 6, at Manhattan College's Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY between No. 3 Marist College and No. 4 Siena College.
 
No. 3 seed Marist took home the 2023 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship in a 12-7 contest. The Red Foxes claim the MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship for the first time since the 2019 season. Marist goalkeeper, Daniel O' Meara, took home tournament MVP honors after totaling 12 saves for the Red Foxes, limiting the Saints to only seven points.  Capturing the 2023 MAAC title, the Red Foxes earn a bid to the 2023 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The NCCA Men's Lacrosse tournament field will be revealed tomorrow, May 7 at 9:30pm.
 
The 2023 MAAC All- Championship team is comprised of: Connor Beals (Mount St. Mary's), Steven Schmitt (Mount St. Mary's), Liam McDonough (Manhattan), Tadhj O'Riordan (Manhattan), Zac Schuette (Siena), Christopher Yanchoris (Siena), Joshua Balcarcel (Marist), Dylan Bedell (Marist), Kurt Wessner (Marist), Daniel O'Meara- MVP (Marist).

Marist Notes
 
-Marist got on the scoreboard first in the game, with a goal from Jake Deacy.
-The score was tied 2-2 at the end of the first period.
- Marist went on 4-0 run in second period to go into the half with a 7-3 lead.
-Marist led Siena 8-5 at the end of the third period.
-All Championship performer, Joshua Balcarcel, led Marist with four points. (3 goals, 1 assist).
- Jamison Embury provided three goals for Marist in the win.
-The Red Foxes claim their first MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship since 2019, fourth in program history.
- Marist earns a bid to the 2023 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament and will find out their next opponent tomorrow at 7:30pm when the NCAA Men's Lacrosse bracket is announced.
 
 
 
Siena Notes
 
-Siena took a 3-2 lead to start the second period.
- 2023 All- Championship performer, Zac Schuette, led the Saints with two goals and two assists.
- Travis Fry recorded two goals in the contest for Siena.
- All Championship honoree, Chris Yanchoris, recorded 10 saves for the Saints.
-Siena finishes the season with an overall record of 9-7, the most wins for the Saints since the 2014 season.
