Men's Lacrosse 6/20/2023 3:00:00 PM Canisius' Miyashita to Represent Team Canada at World Lacrosse Men’s Championship Canisius men's lacrosse head coach Mark Miyashita will reprise his role as an assistant coach with Lacrosse Canada at the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship. The 30-team event will take place in San Diego, Calif., from June 21-July 1. Canada is a part of Pool A, which features the defending champion United States, the Haudenosaunee, Australia and England. Canada will face all four teams in round-robin play before advancing to medal-round action. Miyashita is no stranger to the Team Canada sidelines, having helped the Red and White to a second-place finish at the 2018 World Championship in Netayna, Israel. He also served as an assistant coach for his native country at the 2022 U-20 Men's World Championship, helping that squad claim a silver medal. In addition to Miyashita, Canisius is well represented on the Team Canada coaching and support staff. Golden Griffin Hall of Famer and former Canisius head coach Randy Mearns is serving as an advisor and assistant general manager after two stints as head coach of the senior men's national team. Under Mearns' guidance, Team Canada claimed the gold medal during the 2014 FIL World Championship in Denver, Colo., and took home the silver medal in Israel in 2018. Former Griff defenseman Dan Coates is also on the coaching staff as an assistant video coach while former Canisius attackman Dan Carey is the serving as Team Canada's general manager.
