SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – Iona University women's basketball newcomer
Ella Fajardo and the Phillipines National Team are set to begin play this week at the 2023 FIBA Women's Asia Cup.
The international tournament takes place in Sydney, Australia and features eight different national teams split into two groups. Phillipines is in Group B along with Australia, Chinese Taipei and the five-time defending champions Japan. Group A is made up of China, Korea, Lebanon and New Zealand.
Fajardo and her squad open up against Australia on Monday, June 26. The Phillipines complete group phase play with matchups against Japan (Tuesday, June 27) and Chinese Taipei (Wednesday, June 28).

The winners of Group A and B will enter into the semifinal rounds; the second-place finishers in each respective group will face the third-place finisher in the opposite group with the winner advancing to the semifinals. Qualification Semifinal games take place on Friday, June 30 with the Semifinals set for Saturday, July 1 and the Championship on Sunday, July 2.
