Sasha Van der Merwe, Marist
Sr., Guelph, Canada, Centennial Collegiate Vocational Institute

Sasha van der Merwe capped off the opening weekend for the Red Foxes with 44 kills and 19 digs. She averaged 4.40 kills per set and she tallied an early season 29 kills & 11 digs against UT Martin. Following the season-opening tournament, van der Merwe was named to the Tennessee Classic All-Tournament Team.
 
Libero of the Week
Hope Matschner, Iona
Sr., Winter Springs, FL, Winter Springs
 
Senior libero Hope Matschner led the MAAC in its opening weekend with a 4.91 digs per set average.  Matschner recorded 54 digs in 11 sets in the back row, including a weekend-high 26 vs. Lehigh on Saturday.


Rookie of the Week
Lauren Hubert, Canisius
Fr., Buffalo, NY, Sweet Home
 
Hubert shined in her Canisius debut, totaling 33 kills, 13 digs and two blocks over her first three career matches. She totaled a double-double in her very first collegiate match, notching 12 kills and 10 digs against Youngstown State. She would have another 12 kill performance against Saint Francis (PA) in the Golden Griffins 3-1 win.
 
The 2023 MAAC Volleyball Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 17-19, 2023 at Leo D. Mahoney Arena in Fairfield, CT. Fairfield University will serve as host of the three-day championship with the opening round on Friday, November 17, the semifinals on Saturday, November 18, and the championship match on Saturday, November 19.
