Sacred Heart’s Villarreal, Quinnipiac’s Giacomini and Gunes, and Siena’s Hollas Earn Jersey Mike’s MAAC Volleyball Weekly Awards

 
Player of the Week
Elena Giacomini, Quinnipiac

Graduate student opposite Elena Giacomini recorded a double-double in each match this weekend as she recorded 16 kills and 15 digs on Saturday against Canisius and 14 kills and 10 digs on Sunday against Niagara. Giacomini averaged 5.00 kills per set over the weekend and 4.17 digs per set. Giacomini recorded three aces against Canisius. 
 
Setter of the Week
Damla Gunes, Quinnipiac
Jr., Bursa, Turkey, Sahinkaya Academy
 
In the two matches this past weekend, junior setter Damla Gunes recorded 61 total assists, 34 against Canisius and 27 against Niagara, for an average of 10.17 assists per set. Gunes also recorded one kill, and 3.0 total blocks over the weekend. Gunes also picked up 13 digs over the two matches for an average of 2.17 digs per set. 
 
 
Libero of the Week
Millani Villarreal, Sacred Heart

First year libero Miliani Villarreal led the Pioneers with 42 digs (6.00/set) over the team's 1-1 weekend. She also added 12 assists (1.71/set), which was second on the team. She started the weekend with 25 digs and seven assists in a four-set win over Marist on Saturday. Villarreal then tallied 17 digs and five assists in three sets against Siena on Sunday.
 
Rookie of the Week
Salme Adeele Hollas, Siena
R.-Fr., Tartu, Estonia, Hugo Treggneri Gümnaasium
 
Redshirt Freshman Salme Adeele Hollas totaled 17 kills (.254) and 15 digs, three total blocks in a match at Fairfield and a win at Sacred Heart.
 
 
 
The 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 21-24, 2024 at UHY Center in Loudonville, NY on the campus of Siena College. The first round will take place on Thursday, November 21, followed by the second round on Friday, November 22, the semifinals on Saturday, November 23, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 24.
