Siena’s Shoats and Iona’s Njie Garner the First Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards of 2024-25

Player of the Week
Justice Shoats, Siena
Jr., Wilkes-Barre, PA, Holy Redeemer/Lock Haven

Shoats came off the bench to average 27.0 points, 3.0 assists, and 3.0 steals while shooting 51% from the field to lead Siena to a pair of overtime victories to tip off the season last week. The Division II Lock Haven transfer poured in a game-high 23 points while adding four steals, and dished out the go-ahead assist on the decisive basket in overtime in a season-opening victory over Ivy League finalist Brown Monday night. The junior guard followed up that performance by scoring 22 of his collegiate career-high tying 31 points in the second half and overtime in a road triumph at perennial America East contender Bryant Friday night. Shoats capped the victory with the game-winning free throws with 16.9 seconds remaining. He also recorded five assists, none bigger than on three-pointers on back-to-back possessions late which drew the Saints even and forced overtime.

Fr., Bronx, NY, Cardinal Hayes

Freshman Adam Njie averaged 13.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists in his first two collegiate games at Princeton and Hofstra. In his Iona debut he scored a team-best 19 points, the second highest single-game point total by an Iona freshman this century. Njie shot 44.4% from the field and was 4-for-6 from downtown in the two contests.
