EDISON, NJ (Nov. 22, 2024) – The 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship continued Friday night at Siena College with Canisius and Rider advancing to the semifinal round to take on Fairfield and Quinnipiac. Tomorrow’s match will take place at 1pm and 4pm.

In a thrilling second-round matchup of the 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship, No. 4 Canisius overcame No. 8 Iona 3-1 to advance to the semifinals. The Golden Griffins claimed a hard-fought victory, winning sets one, three, and four (24-26, 23-25, 17-25), while Iona took set two, 25-22. Canisius was led by Kara Zaucha, who recorded an impressive 22 kills, and Sofia Hedqvist, who added 18. Ella Bourque set up the offense with 39 assists, and Jillian Hanna was a standout defensively with 23 digs. Iona’s Mija Jegers was a bright spot for the Gaels, tallying 14 kills, while Emms Vu contributed 34 assists. Jen Soto and Grace Ehler came up big for the defense with 7 blocks. Canisius dominated offensively, finishing with 63 kills compared to Iona’s 53. The Golden Griffins will next face top-seeded Fairfield, the defending MAAC champions, in tomorrow's semifinal at 1 p.m.

A competitive, four-set battle in Game 4 of the 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship saw No. 3 Rider rallying after dropping the first set to No. 7 Merrimack, ultimately securing a 3-1 victory. Merrimack claimed the first set 26-24, but Rider responded with dominant performances in the next three sets, winning 25-13, 25-22, and 25-22. Rider’s Kiannisha Santiago was the standout performer, registering a career-high 24 kills and contributing 5 blocks. The Broncs also received strong defensive efforts from Keegan O'Connor and Paige Gieghtbrock, who both had 18 digs. Ryley Frye and McKenna Mason combined for 46 assists, helping Rider outkill Merrimack 64-45. For the Warriors, Julz Carat led with 16 kills, McKenna Shotwell had 15 digs, and Lilly Konrad contributed 16 assists. Rider now advances to face No. 2 Quinnipiac in tomorrow's semifinal at 4 p.m.
The 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 21-24, 2024 at UHY Center in Loudonville, NY on the campus of Siena College. The first round will take place on Thursday, November 21, followed by the second round on Friday, November 22, the semifinals on Saturday, November 23, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 24.
