Rider’s Diop, Fairfield’s Nikolov and Iona’s Rossi Win Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

Diop scored twice and added an assist in the Broncs' 1-0-1 week. In a win at Manhattan on Wednesday, Diop's strike from atop the 18-yard box gave the Broncs a 2-0 lead. He then went for a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie with Marist, including the equalizer in the 84th minute. He now has a league-best eight goals and 20 points on the season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Viktor Nikolov, Fairfield

Viktor Nikolov made eight saves to pick up a clean sheet in a win over Sacred Heart, facing 20 shots in the match. He made five of those saves in the second half including two in the final five minutes to preserve the victory. He followed up with four saves in a draw with Canisius, making three of those stops over the final 45 minutes. For the week, he averaged 6.0 saves (12 total in 2 games) and owned a 1.00 goals against average with a .857 save percentage.
 
Rookie of the Week
Bautista Rossi, Iona

First-year forward Bautista Rossi paced the Iona University men’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Manhattan on Saturday. Rossi tallied his first career brace in the win over the Jaspers at Mazzella Field. The Buenos Aires, Argentina native recorded the opening tally in the ninth minute before netting the game winning goal in the 35th minute for the Maroon & Gold. He now ranks second on the team in goals with four in his rookie campaign. Rossi is tied for the league lead and paces all MAAC rookies in goals scored in conference play. 
 
The 2024 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 10-17, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 10, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 14, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 17.
