EDISON, NJ (Dec. 18, 2024) – 2024-25 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball league action begins this week with conference games on Thursday and Saturday, December 19 and 21. All 13 MAAC women’s units will play at least one contest during the December slate.
League play commences on Thursday, December 19 with a full slate of games. The conference docket tips with a pair of games at 11:00 a.m., highlighted by top-ranked Quinnipiac hosting Rider. The Bobcats boast the best overall record at 8-1, which includes a perfect 4-0 mark at home in Hamden, CT. Additional games to note on opening day will be the inaugural MAAC contests for league newcomers, Sacred Heart and Merrimack. The Pioneers will begin their MAAC campaign on the road at Iona with a 6:00 p.m. start and the Warriors welcome Canisius to North Andover, MA at 7:00 p.m.
Opening week will conclude on Sunday, December 21 with another six-game full schedule on the agenda. Five out of the six contests on Sunday tipoff at 2:00 p.m., headlined by the conference opener for MAAC defending champion, Fairfield, who plays host to Mount St. Mary’s at Mahoney Arena. The Stags, which have claimed two out of the past three MAAC titles, sit at 6-3 overall and own nonconference wins over a trio of teams from power conferences in the ACC, Big East, and SEC. The nightcap will include a meeting between a pair of top five squads when Marist hosts Manhattan in Poughkeepsie, NY at 7:00 p.m. The Jaspers sit in a two-way tie for second place on the league standings with Fairfield at 6-3, while the Red Foxes are in fourth place, bringing a 5-5 overall record into the game, which includes a perfect 3-0 tally at home inside of McCann Arena.
