Iona’s Dilcher, Siena’s Gardner, and the Rider duo of DuBard and Stephens Win MAAC Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

Men’s Track Performer of the Week:
Damien Dilcher, Iona
Gr., Brick, NJBrick Township
 
Junior Damien Dilcher became the eighth Iona University runner to post a sub-4-minute mile with his time of 3:59.56 at the Eagle Elite Invitational hosted by Boston College. He was seventh overall in the elite race, behind a pair of runners from Virginia and Oklahoma State and single runners from North Carolina and Butler. Dilcher performed double duty and was the Gaels top finisher in the 3,000-meter event at BC. He was 14th overall with an IC4A qualifying time of 7:59.12 and became the 15th member of Iona's sub-8-minute 3k club. Both times were the fastest in the MAAC in the 2023-24 indoor track season.
 
Men’s Field Performer of the Week:
Jayden DuBard, Rider
Jr., Buffalo, NY, Cheektowaga
 
DuBard won the shot put at the Big Apple Invitational in 16.42m. It is the number one mark in the MAAC by over 4 feet. It was also an IC4A qualifier and the number four mark all-time at Rider.
 
Women’s Track Performer of the Week:
Claire Gardner, Siena
Jr., Chestnut Ridge, NY, Albertus Magnus
 
Gardner set the Siena program record in the 1,000 with a time of 2:49.16 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday. Her mark was good for the fastest time in the MAAC this season by three seconds.
 
Women’s Field Performer of the Week:
Mariah Stephens, Rider
Jr., Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Egg Harbor Township
 
In addition to her track accomplishments this weekend, Stephens won the long jump at the Big Apple Invitational in 5.76m. It was an ECAC qualifying mark and the top mark in the MAAC this season. It was also the number three mark all time at Rider.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 24-25, 2024, at the Nike Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York, New York. The two-day meet will be hosted by Manhattan College and will be held at The Armory for the 20th consecutive year. With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is in its 43rd year of competition during the 2023-24 academic year. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
