NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – For the first time since 2009, Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse has earned a national ranking for the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association. The 5-1 Stags crack the national poll at #25 this week. Fairfield was also tabbed for #20 in the
USA Lacrosse Media Poll.
After Saturday's 12-5 win over Drexel, the Stags have won five consecutive games. Fairfield has defeated two nationally-ranked opponents -- #24 UConn and #23 UAlbany – and three teams that qualified for the 2023 NCAA postseason (UConn, UAlbany, Drexel). The lone setback on the 2024 slate is a 17-16 loss at Holy Cross to open the season on Feb. 10.
Head Coach Laura Field and the Stags are the five-time defending champions of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and have also won four of the last five MAAC regular season titles. Fairfield Women's Lacrosse last achieved a national ranking in the final 2009 poll, when the 17-3 Stags finished the campaign at #19 in the nation.
#20/25 Fairfield returns to action this Saturday, March 16 on Conway Field at Rafferty Stadium against Sacred Heart at 4 p.m. Admission is free for all fans to all regular season home games this season.
