Manhattan’s Hapward and Gucwa, Marist’s Bedell, and Sacred Heart’s Moran Pick Up Ticket Smarter MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Weekly Awards

Offensive Player of the Week
Kyle Gucwa, Manhattan
Gr., Pottstown, PA, Bishop Shanahan
 
Graduate student attacker Kyle Gucwa totaled 6 goals and 6 assists. He saw four goals and one assist against  #20 Quinnipiac and saw two goals and five assists against Marist. Gucwa averaged three goals and three assists in a 2-0 conference play week for the Jaspers.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Connor Hapward, Manhattan
Sr., West Caldwell, N.J., James Caldwell

Senior goalkeeper Connor Hapward led Manhattan to both wins this week with a total of 29 saves and a 56.5% save rate. Against #20 Quinnipiac, Hapward tallied 12 saves and a 50% save percentage. He also saw 17 saves and a 63% save percentage against Marist in a 2-0 conference play week for the Jaspers.
 
Face-off Specialist of the Week
Dylan Bedell, Marist
Jr., Charlotte, NC, Charlotte Christian School
 
In a two-game week for the Red Foxes, face-off specialist Dylan Bedell went 31-for-46 in faceoffs, to go along with 13 groundballs and two goals for two points.
 
Rookie of the Week
James Moran, Sacred Heart
Fy., Nanuet, N.Y.
 
Freshman midfielder James Moran scored six goals in SHU's 2-0 week. The first year recorded a hat trick in both games as Sacred Heart defeated Marist 12-7 and LIU 17-6.
 
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place between April 27 and May 4, 2024. The six-team, single-elimination tournament will open on Saturday, April 27 with the opening round hosted by the higher seed of each matchup. The semifinals and championship final will be hosted by the highest MAAC full member school in the field and will be played on Thursday, May 2 and Saturday, May 4. With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) is in its 43rd year of competition during the 2023-24 academic year. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
