Rider’s Garcia, Niagara’s Huhtala, and Fairfield’s Haggerty Selected as Ticket Smarter MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Kylee Garcia, Rider

Garcia scored 10 goals and added five assists as the Broncs earned a pair of MAAC wins over Manhattan and Marist. In the win over Manhattan, Garcia recorded her 200th collegiate goal. Against Marist, the graduate student tied a program record with six goals and set a program record with four assists and 10 points. For the season, she ranks fifth in the MAAC in goals per game, seventh in the MAAC in assists per game and second in the MAAC in points per game.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Sydney Huhtala, Niagara
So., Baldwinsville, NY, Baldwinsville

Huhtala helped Niagara to a 2-0 week as she caused seven turnovers, picked up seven ground balls, and won nine draws. In Niagara firs league win at Mount St. Mary's, Huhtala caused three turnovers and won six draws, before causing four turnovers, picking up a season-high seven ground balls and winning three draws in NU's win over Manhattan. On the season, Huhtala leads the MAAC and is fourth in the nation with 2.80 caused turnovers per game.
 
Rookie of the Week
Kelly Haggerty, Fairfield
Fr., Port Chester, NY, Sacred Heart Greenwich
 
Haggerty scored five goals in the Stags' 2-0 week of MAAC action. After scoring once in the Wednesday's win over Iona, Haggerty rattled the cage a career-high four times in Fairfield's Saturday rout of Canisius.
 
The 2024 MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship will take place between April 28 and May 5, 2024. The six-team, single-elimination tournament will open on Sunday, April 28 with the opening round hosted by the higher seed of each matchup. The semifinals and championship final will be hosted by the top overall seed in the field and will be played on Friday, May 3 and Sunday, May 5.
