POUGHKEEPPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 27, 2024)- The semifinal round of the 2024 MAAC Water Polo Chmapionship finished this afternoon with Wagner and Marist advancing to the championship round to be held at Marist’s McCann Natatorium on Sunday April 28 at 1pm.
No.1 (RED) Wagner College- 16 | No. 3 (BLUE) Mount St. Mary’s University- 9
2024 MAAC Water Polo Championship-Semifinal Round
McCann Natatorium | Marist College
Top-seeded Wagner College pushed past Mount St. Mary’s, 16-9, to return to the title game of the MAAC Water Polo Championship for the third consecutive year. Wagner will take on Marist College in tomorrow’s Championship game. Both teams are top seeds of their respective divisions.
Wager Notes
-Carlota Alonso led the Seahawk’s offense with five goals on the day. Andrea Arias followed with four goals.
-Wagner offense had a 51.6 shot%.
-The Seahawks scored three goals in a three minute window in the fourth quarter, securing their victory.
-Defensively, Francesa Sena saw the full 32 minutes in goal and tallied three saves on the day.
Mount St. Mary’s Notes
- Ana Luisa Cotta led the Mount’s with six goals, followed by Rebecca Valentine and Anita Radaelli, who scored four goals each.
-In the net, Olivia Fernie had five saves.
- Mount St. Mary's completes their fourth season of competition with a 15-15 record, capped off by the upset victory over ranked LIU in the MAAC Championship.

Marist College took down Iona University and will advance to take on
Wagner in the Championship game. Marist is looking to bring home their program’s sixth MAAC title.
Marist Notes
-Marist outscored Iona 15-9, taking just 22 shots. The dialed in a 68.2 shot %.
- Paige Naegle found the back of the net six times for the Red Foxes.
-Marist College took the lead and ran with it in the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals. They were able to hold on to the lead until the conclusion of the game.
-In the net, Ines Sanchez saw 11 saves for the Red Foxes.
Iona Notes
-Three Gaels controlled the offensive effort for Iona, led by Kaitlyn Williams and Mia Tovar who each netted two goals and Bella Morquecho who chipped in one.
-Defensively, Lilly Morris had four saves on the day.
-Iona concludes their season with a 14-16 record.
