POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (Apr. 28, 2024)- The 2024 MAAC Water Polo Championship concluded with Wagner College claiming the title Sunday afternoon at Marist’s, McCann Natatorium. The Seahawks pushed past Marist in a back-and-forth battle, defeating them 9-8.

The 2024 MAAC Water Polo Championship match kicked off when Marist’s Ella Baumgarten scored the first goal of the day, four minutes into the match. Wagner quickly answered with a goal of their own less than a minute later from Andrea Arias. The two top-seeded teams went back and forth, answering each other’s goal with one of their own, but the Seahawks were able to gain a two goal lead heading into halftime.
Paige Naegle and Shinae Carrington couldn’t be denied coming into the second half and found the back of the net for Marist, tying the score up, 6-6, late in the third quarter.
Wagner went on to score three more goals and were able to hold on to the lead, despite Marist scoring two, down to the wire goals in the last minutes of the match.
Wagner claims their eleventh MAAC title in program history.
Wagner Notes
-Andrea Arias was selected as the All-Championship Team MVP. Teammates Carlota Alonso and Mar Navaro were also selected to the All-Championship team.
-Carlota Alonso led the offensive effort for the Seahawks with four goals. Andrea Arias followed with three goals.
-In goal, Francesca Sena tallied six saves on the day.
Marist Notes
-2024 marks the Red Foxes’ twelfth title match appearance.
- Shinae Carrington and Ines Sanchez were selected to the All-Championship team.
- Shinae Carrington and Paige Naegle led the Red Foxes in scoring with three goals each.
-Goalkeeper Ines Sanchez had nine saves in goal for Marist.
