POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (May 10, 2024)- The 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Championship semifinals concluded today with Siena College and Canisius University advancing to the 2024 MAAC Softball Championship title game.

2024 MAAC Softball Championship- Box Score
The MAAC Softball Championship continued Friday morning with No. 4 Canisius taking on No. 6 Siena in the first game of the semifinals. The Saints third inning rally put them ahead by eight runs to send the Saints to the Championship.
Siena Notes
-The Saints’ bats were hot with six different players getting a hit on the day.
-Emma Petersen had her third homerun of the tournament, bringing in three runs for the Saints in the first inning. McKenzie Swinson also knocked one out of the park in the second inning.
-A third inning rally saw a single, double, sacrifice fly run and a stolen base to put the Saints up, 8-0, over the Griffs.
-Alissa Eimont pitched the full seven, facing 34 batters, getting three strike outs.
-Siena appears in the Championship game for the second time in three years.
- Siena became the fourth No. 6 seed since the expansion of the tournament in 2014 to clinch a berth in the MAAC title game, doing so for the first time since 2021.
Canisius Notes
-Gianna Fazzolari had the Griffs lone hit of the game- a three-run homer in the fifth. This hit was her 11th homerun of season and the four runs batted in put her as Canisius’ career RBI leader.
-Christie McGee-Ross led the hitters with three hits on the day.
-This loss put the Griffs in the elimination game against Niagara in Game 9.

Game 8 of the 2024 MAAC Softball Championship saw No.2 Niagara take down top-seeded Marist to secure a spot in the in Game 9 against. Niagara pushed past Marist, 10-4, putting an end to the Red Foxes’ season.
Niagara Notes
-The Purple Eagles controlled the offense in the first six innings, getting 10 runs across the plate in six innings, keeping Marist scoreless.
-Sam Hare had two, three-run homeruns on the day, one in the third and one in the sixth.
-Brianna Delaney also homered in the fifth, sending two runners home.
-Maddie Hickingbottom started in the circle for the first five innings, giving up five hits and striking out four batters.
-Niagara remained in the tournament and went on to face Canisius in the elimination game.
Marist Notes
-Five Red Foxes had hits on the day including Haley Ahr who homered in the sixth.
-Peyton Pusey and Miah McDonald each had two hits.
-Kiley Myers pitched 5.2 innings for Marist, striking out four batters. Anna Sidlowski finished the game.
-Marist finishes their season with a 17-6 MAAC record and a 36-19 overall record.

In the final elimination game of the tournament, Canisius survived the day and pushed past No. 2 Niagara, 6-2. The Griffs will take Siena in the Championship game tomorrow at 11:00 AM.
Canisius Notes
-Griffs got on the board early in the second inning with a two RBI single from Alyssa Cloutier.
-Cloutier and Christie McGee-Ross both had two RBIs on the day.
-Canisius kept the Purple Eagles off the board until the sixth inning, but a good defensive effort kept Niagara to just two runs.
-Megan Geise pitched the full seven for Canisius, striking out seven batters and allowing only two runs.
Niagara Notes
-Niagara got on the board in the fourth inning after a Sophia Marrero double sent a runner home and Hailey Cenname’s ground out sent a Purple Eagle across the plate.
-Three Purple Eagles wer eint he circle for Niagara. Collectively, they struck out six batters.
Tomorrow’s championship game features No. 4 Canisius University and No. 6 Siena College. If Canisius wins, Game 11 will be played to determine a champion.
Game time is set for 11:00 AM and t hr game will be streamed on ESPN+.
