Iona’s Sheeran and Niagara Duo of Delaney and Hickingbottom Pick Up Final Rawlings MAAC Softball Weekly Awards

Jamie Sheeran had a strong weekend at the plate for the Iona University softball team, batting .700 (7 for 10) with three doubles and three home runs with seven runs batted in. She had a .636 on-base percentage and 1.900 slugging percentage in the 2-1 weekend at Saint Peter’s. Sheeran went 4-for-4 with three runs batted in as the Gaels took the series opener 12-0 on Friday. She entered the game tied for the program’s career home run record and hit a second inning home run to set the new mark and followed it up with a fifth inning two-run shot for her 46th career home run. She followed that performance with two doubles and two runs batted in for game one’s 10-2 victory Saturday. Sheeran ended the series with her third home run of the weekend in the game two setback to the Peacocks.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Maddie Hickingbottom, Niagara
Gr., Georgetown, Ontario, University at Buffalo

Pitcher Maddie Hickingbottom posted a 1.12 ERA over four appearances, including three starts in the circle this past week. The righty struck out 27 batters in 18.2 innings while allowing 11 hits and three earned runs.
 
Rookie of the Week
Brianna Delaney, Niagara
Fr., Lockport, NY
 
Freshman Brianna Delaney went 6-for-14 at the plate with two home runs, six RBI, three walks, and four runs scored over five games. She connected on her eighth home run of the season, third most by a Purple Eagle freshman in program history, in Niagara's regular-season finale win over Mount St. Mary's.
