Niagara’s Lopez Forner, Quinnipiac’s Netzell, and Rider’s Punselie Garner Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Honors

Offensive Player of the Week
Gerard Lopez Forner, Niagara

Lopez Forner netted a hat trick to lead Niagara to a 4-2 come-from-behind win over rival St. Bonaventure Saturday night. All three of his goals came in a 3:42 span in the second half. Lopez Forner's 3:42 between goals for his hat trick is the fastest recorded hat trick in Niagara men's soccer history and fifth-fastest in NCAA history (according to NCAA Record Book). His hat trick was also the first for a Purple Eagle since 2021.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Karl Netzell, Quinnipiac
Jr., Stockholm, Sweden, Norra Real
 
Netzell started in goal and played all 90 minutes in both Bobcat games this week, going 1-0-1 in net. He made four saves in the team's 0-0 tie with La Salle Saturday afternoon and picked up a victory in the team’s 5-1 win over CCSU on Tuesday. The clean sheet against La Salle was his second shutout of the season and ninth in his career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Ezra Punselie, Rider
Fr., Nieuw-Vennep, Netherlands, Zaanlands Lyceum
 
Punselie scored the equalizer in the Broncs' 2-1 comeback victory over NJIT. The goal was his second in as many games and he now has five points on the year.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 10-17, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 10, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 14, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 17.
