Sacred Heart’s Villarreal, Saint Peter’s Caligiuri, and Iona’s Wiggins and Jegers Earn Jersey Mike’s MAAC Volleyball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
Kenzie Wiggins, Iona

Senior outside hitter Kenzie Wiggins had a breakout weekend offensively for the Maroon & Gold at the Henson Hawk Invitational in Princess Anne, MD. She recorded 42 kills (3.50/set) while hitting .260 and averaged 2.5 digs per set with double doubles in two of the three matches.   She led the MAAC this weekend with her hitting percentage among performers recording 40 or more kills.   Against UMES on Saturday Wiggins recorded a season-best 17 kills and a .406 hitting percentage.
 
Setter of the Week
Danielle Caligiuri, Saint Peter's
Fr., Pittsburg, PA, Montour
 
Freshman setter Danielle Caligiuri led all players in assists at the Friar Classic, delivering three game-high performances: 26 assists against Columbia, 25 against Stonehill, and a career-high 32 assists against Providence.
 
Libero of the Week
Miliani Villarreal, Sacred Heart
Fr., Murrieta, Calif., Vista Murrieta
 
First year libero Millani Villarreal led the Pioneers with 45 digs (4.09/set) over its three matches at the Black Knights Invitational. She also added 21 assists (1.91/set), which was second on the team. The highlight of Villarreal's week was Friday when she tallied a 19-dig, 13-assist double-double against Bryant. She added 12 digs against Hofstra on Saturday and 14 against Army on Sunday.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mija Jegers, Iona
Fr., Lincolnshire, IL, Stevenson
 
Freshman outside hitter Mija Jegers led the Gaels' rookie corps at the Henson Hawk Invitational in Princess Anne, MD this weekend. Jegers averaged 2.14 kills, 1.29 digs and 2.29 points during Iona's 1-2 weekend. She had a breakout effort in the Gaels three-set win over Hampton, posting her third double-digit point effort (10.0) and second double-digit kill effort (10) while hitting a season-best .533 in the win.
 
 
The 2024 MAAC Volleyball Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 21-24, 2024 at UHY Center in Loudonville, NY on the campus of Siena College. The first round will take place on Thursday, November 21, followed by the second round on Friday, November 22, the semifinals on Saturday, November 23, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 24.
