Wagner Voted as the 2025 MAAC Water Polo Preseason Coaches’ Poll Favorites

EDISON, NJ (Jan. 22, 2025) – Wagner College have been selected as the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Water Polo preseason favorite, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches.
 
The Seahawks collected 80 points and eight first-place votes, to lead the poll. Wagner enters 2025 as the defending MAAC Champions after claiming the 2024 title. Dating back to 2003, Wagner has won a MAAC-leading 11 championships, including eight out of the last 10 trophies since 2014. Overall, the Seahawks went 30-5 last season, including a perfect 12-0 MAAC mark, securing their third consecutive MAAC Regular Season Championship.
 
2024 MAAC runner-up, Marist College, was tabbed second in the poll, receiving 71 points, while LIU was picked third with a total of 64 points and the final first place vote. Iona University (48) and La Salle University (46) rounded out the top five.
 
Wagner’s senior attacker, Carlota Alonso, earned MAAC Preseason Player of the Year honors, while the duo of Marist’s Ines Sanchez and Wagner’s Francesca Sena, were named MAAC Preseason Co-Goalkeepers of the Year.

The 2025 MAAC Water Polo Championship will take place April 25-27, 2025. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.
