EDISON, NJ (Jan. 29, 2025) – Siena College has been selected as the top team in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Quinnipiac University’s All-American, Mason Oak, has been named Preseason Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's nine head coaches.
For the second straight season, Siena collected the most votes in the poll, this year earning a league-high 75 points, with three first place votes. The Saints enter the season following an 8-8 overall (5-4 MAAC) 2024 campaign in which the team advanced to the championship semifinal round for the second consecutive postseason. Siena is tied for second amongst MAAC members with three total MAAC Championships, winning the league crowns in 2009, 2011, and 2014.
Defending MAAC Champion, Sacred Heart University, was narrowly picked second in the poll with 74 points, while garnering a league-high six first place votes. Marist University (62), Quinnipiac (56) and 2024 runner-up Manhattan University (43) rounded out the top five of the poll.
Oak, who was recently named as a USA Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention, finished the 2024 season ranked second nationally in saves per game (15.43) and fourth nationally in save percentage (58.7%). He won 2024 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named a USA Lacrosse All-American last season. Oak made 216 total saves and allowed just 152 goals during 14 contests. He made 22 saves vs. Sacred Heart on April 10 – the fifth largest save total in a D1 game during the 2024 campaign and posted nine games with 15 or more saves. Oak led the Bobcats to a 9-5 mark in 2024, anchoring Quinnipiac to its most wins since 2019.
