Marist’s Naegle and Sanchez, and Villanova’s Canales, Mattocks, and Stephens Earn Kap7 Water Polo Weekly Awards

 
Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Ella Mattocks, Villanova
Jr., Shutesbury, Mass., Williston Northampton

Ella Mattocks had two standout offensive games on the weekend in the Wildcats' victories. She recorded a total of five goals, including a penalty goal. She also drew an exclusion against Toronto. Against Salem, she tied her season high of three goals.

Paige Naegle, Marist

Paige Naegle had an outstanding weekend on the offensive end for the Red Foxes against two ranked opponents. Naegle had four assists for the Red Foxes in their win against 20th ranked Brown, along with a hat trick. Naegle also tallied two assist in the Red Foxes match against Harvard.
 
Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Rachel Stephens, Villanova
Fr., Los Gatos, Calif., Los Gatos


Freshman, Rachel Stephens, tallied seven saves across two games in wins against the Toronto Golden Jets and Salem University. One of those saves coming a man down.

Inés Sánchez, Marist
Jr., Barcelona, Spain, Voramon


Ines Sanchez had a dominant weekend in net for the Red Foxes against two ranked opponents. Sanchez had multiple saves against 15th ranked Harvard in the first match of the weekend. In the second match of the weekend, Sanchez led the Red Foxes to a win in net against 20th ranked Brown.
 
Rookie of the Week
Layla Canales, Villanova
Fr., Gainesville, Fla., Gainesville


Freshman attacker Layla Canales totaled seven goals, two assists, three steals, and an exclusion over the two games during the weekend. In the first game of the day against Toronto, the earliest the Wildcats have played all year, Canales went 3/3 on penalty shots and forced three turnovers. She led the 'Cats with her seven goals on the weekend.
 
 
The 2025 MAAC Water Polo Championship will take place April 25-27, 2025. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by Marist University in Poughkeepsie, NY. Marist has hosted the Water Polo Championship annually since 2003.
