Marist’s Pleasants, Iona’s Hoppe, and Canisius’ Vargas Earn Jersey Mike’s MAAC Softball Weekly Awards


Player of the Week
Maddie Pleasants, Marist

Maddie Pleasants shined both at the plate and in the circle as Marist opened MAAC play with a three-game sweep at Saint Peter's. She hit .600 (6-for-10) with a 2.136 OPS (1.500 slugging, .636 on-base) as she totaled three homers and eight RBIs, and also earned a win in her only appearance in the circle. In the second game of a doubleheader at Saint Peter's on March 22, Pleasants homered twice, and went 3-for-4 with six RBIs and three runs scored in Marist's 15-1 victory, which included a grand slam in the fifth inning. She also started in the circle, and she struck out six over four innings while allowing just one run. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, she homered and went 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk in Marist's 9-0 triumph. She finished the weekend by going 2-for-4 in Marist's 3-0 win on Sunday. Pleasants has hit nine homers in her last nine games, and she has struck out 16 over eight innings in her last two pitching appearances.
 
 
Pitcher of the Week
Allison Hoppe, Iona

Allison Hoppe had a strong week in the circle for the Iona University softball team. She led the Maroon & Gold with three wins for the week including two victories in the weekend series sweep over Quinnipiac. The sophomore right-hander posted a 1.33 earned run average with 15 strikeouts in 21 innings pitched. Hoppe started the week with a career-high seven strikeouts in the 5-3 win over Maine on Tuesday. She followed that performance up with just one earned run and five strikeouts in the 4-3 win in game one over Quinnipiac on Saturday. Hoppe capped the weekend with her second shutout of the season, scattering seven hits in the 4-0 victory on Sunday.

Rookie of the Week
Vivi Vargas, Canisius
Fr., Chula Vista, Calif., Otay Ranch
 
Freshman Vivi Vargas went 3-for-5 with a .600 batting average over three games this past week. Vargas tallied two home runs with seven RBI and a double.
 
The 2025 MAAC Softball Championship is an eight-team single and double elimination championship taking place between May 6-10, 2025. Games 1 and 2 will be single elimination and games 3-12 will be double elimination. The championship will be hosted by the highest seed.
