Villanova’s Mattacks, La Salle’s Duo of Kirby and Azzopardi, and LIU’s Allen Named Kap7 MAAC Water Polo Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Ella Mattocks, Villanova

Ella Mattocks led Villanova to a 3-0 week, also helping the team secure a spot in the MAAC postseason field. Mattocks scored 12 goals for the 'Cats, leading the team through the three games. In a 15-7 win over Siena on Saturday, she scored six goals. Mattocks added two goals in a 13-12 victory against Iona, followed by four more goals to cap off the weekend in a victory over Mount St. Mary’s.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Lily Kirby, La Salle

Lily Kirby broke her own single-game program record with 20 saves in an 11-8 win against Siena last Sunday, helping La Salle secure a spot in the 2026 MAAC Water Polo Championship field. She tallied 41 saves, seven steals, and two assists in a 2-1 weekend for the Explorers. Kirby has registered 199 saves on the season and 629 saves in her career, needing nine saves to break the program's all-time career record.

Nadya Azzopardi, La Salle
Fr., Swieqi, MaltaGiovanni Curmi Higher Secondary School
 
Nadya Azzopardi tallied six goals, four assists, and three steals in a 2-1 weekend for the Explorers. Against Siena, Azzopardi contributed another strong outing with two goals, one assist, and two steals to help La Salle clinch a spot in the 2026 MAAC Water Polo Championship field. Azzopardi brought her season total to a team-leading 53 goals.
 
Co-Rookie of the Week
Julia Allen, LIU
R-Fr., Lake Worth Beach, FL, Long Beach State/Boca Raton Community
 
Julia Allen totaled six goals, one assist, two steals, and 12 exclusions drawn in three games last week. Her week was highlighted by scoring three goals in LIU's win over VMI on Sunday.
 
The 2026 MAAC Water Polo Championship will take place April 11-12, 2026. The four-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by Marist University in Poughkeepsie, NY.
