EDISON, NJ (Aug. 17, 2026) – Veteran women’s basketball official Tasha Smith has been named the Metro Conference Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officials, Commissioner Travis Tellitocci announced Monday.
Selected to officiate in five NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championships, Smith also serves as the coordinator of women’s basketball officials for the Ivy League and three Division II conferences, and has more than a decade of officiating experience among the Division I ranks.
2026-27 marks the first season of the Metro Conference joining the Atlantic Coast Conference, American Conference, BIG EAST Conference, Atlantic 10 Conference, Big South Conference, Coastal Athletic Association, and Ivy League in the women’s basketball officiating alliance, led by ACC Supervisor of Officials Pualani Spurlock-Welsh.
As coordinator of women’s basketball officials, Smith will oversee all aspects of the Metro’s women’s basketball officiating program, including recruiting, training, evaluation, scheduling, development, and continued education of the conference’s officials. She will also work closely with administrators, coaches, Metro Conference Senior Associate Commissioner, Basketball Jordan Confessore, and the NCAA to ensure consistency, transparency, and the continued advancement of officiating throughout the Metro.
Smith will work closely with Spurlock-Welsh and coordinators across the alliance conferences to enhance the quality, consistency and development of officiating through a collaborative system of assigning, training, evaluation, and oversight.
“Tasha's appointment reflects our continued commitment to building women's basketball officiating at the Metro Conference,” said Tellitocci. “As we enter a new era as part of the women's basketball officiating alliance, her leadership will be instrumental in growing our officiating ranks, strengthening officiating across our conference, and ultimately elevating the experience of our student-athletes.”
“Tasha’s experience positions the Metro Conference to maximize partnership with the women's basketball officiating alliance, aligning standards, sharing best practices, and deepening our pipeline of officiating talent,” said Senior Associate Commissioner, Basketball Jordan Confessore. “Our membership, student-athletes and coaches will feel the impact of her work every night of the season.”
On the court, Smith, officiated games in 19 Division I conferences including the Metro, American Conference, Atlantic Coast Conference, Big Ten Conference, Big 12 Conference, BIG EAST Conference, and the Southeastern Conference, among others.
“It is an incredible honor and privilege to be named the Metro Conference Coordinator of Women’s Basketball Officials,” said Smith. “I am beyond excited to begin this new chapter, continue serving the conference, and impact the sport in a different role. I am excited about the opportunities ahead to build meaningful relationships with conference staff, athletic directors, coaches, and student-athletes. Alongside an outstanding team within the Alliance, I am committed to strengthening our collective efforts, supporting our officials, and continuing to grow the game of women’s basketball.”
During her distinguished career, Smith has been selected to officiate in each of the first three Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournaments (WBIT), in addition to the championships of nine conferences, including the Metro women’s basketball semifinal in 2026.
Smith also earned the opportunity to wear the stripes for three NCAA Division II regional tournaments (2018, 2019, and 2021) and was selected to work the finals as an alternate twice, in 2018 and 2021.
