EDISON, NJ (August 28, 2026) – The 2026 Metro volleyball season officially gets underway Friday, with 10 conference institutions taking the court on the opening day of competition. Of the conference’s 12 volleyball institutions, 11 will see action during opening weekend.
Defending champion Fairfield University will open its season in Knoxville, TN, against Morehead State as part of the Tennessee Tournament. Six additional Metro institutions will also begin their seasons Friday, with Canisius, Niagara, Saint Peter’s, Siena, Rider and Iona competing in tournaments around the country. Manhattan will play at Temple on Friday afternoon in the lone non-tournament matchup of the day.
Action continues Saturday, with Sacred Heart competing in the Black Knight Invitational and Quinnipiac taking part in the Boston College Invitational. Marist will face Lafayette College and the University of Delaware at 1:30PM and 4:30PM, respectively, while Manhattan will go to Fordham in an evening matchup.
Tournament and non-conference action will continue through Sunday, August 30, wrapping up the opening weekend.

The 2026 Metro Volleyball Championship will feature six teams in a single-elimination format, with competition taking place November 17-23, 2026. The first round will be hosted by the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds. The No. 1 seed will host the semifinal and championship rounds, which will be played on consecutive days at dates determined by the host institution.
