Tobias Esche became the first Quinnipiac student-athlete in 10 years to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors when he was chosen to the Men’s Soccer All-America Third Team on Tuesday. A senior defender from Bremen, Germany, Esche earned the honor after a three-year Bobcat career which saw him twice earn first-team All-MAAC honors, while leading Quinnipiac to its first-ever NCAA Division I Tournament appearance in 2013. A business management major with a 3.91 GPA, Esche earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in each of the last two years, before being chosen the first Quinnipiac Academic All-American since the spring of 2006 last week.
Emily Altier
Women's Swimming and Diving, Senior, Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North
A senior in the accounting program at Niagara University, Emily Altier has been a leader and role model as both a student and a swimmer. Altier, a distance swimmer for the Purple Eagles, set a personal-best in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:56.37 at Binghamton University back on Oct. 24, and she also took first place in the 500-yard and 1000-yard freestyle events in an Oct. 17 win versus Fredonia State. In addition to her swimming exploits, Altier has been deeply involved with the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at Niagara. In addition to being the president of SAAC at Niagara, Altier is in the second year of her two-year appointment as the MAAC representative to the NCAA division of SAAC. Altier, along with student-athlete representatives from each of the other Division I conferences, is responsible for improving the student-athlete experience at colleges across the country.
