POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's basketball team has finished the 2010-11 season ranked 21st in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. The final poll of the season was released on Wednesday. The ranking is the best at the end of the season for the Red Foxes in program history.
The 2010-11 Marist women's basketball team finished the season with a record of 31-3. The Red Foxes defeated Iowa State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and lost by five to Duke in the second round. Marist enjoyed a program-record 27-game winning streak, and was ranked in the final six editions of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll. The Red Foxes were ranked 17th in the March 8 poll, the highest the team has been ranked in program history.
This marks the third time Marist has finished the season nationally ranked. The Red Foxes were 22nd in the final poll of the 2006-07 season, when they advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The following season, Marist finished #23 in the poll in a season in which the Red Foxes set a program record with 32 wins and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
