MAAC Player of the Week

Billy Baron, Canisius

Canisius senior guard Billy Baron is the MAAC Player of the Week. Baron averaged 37.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists as he led the Golden Griffins to a pair of road wins. In the 71-65 victory at Niagara, Baron scored a game-high 34 points, hitting 10-of-16 from the floor and 11-of-14 from  the foul line. Baron was good on six consecutive free throws in the final 29 seconds to secure the victory. In the Golden Griffs’ triple-overtime win at Siena, Baron scored a career-high 40 points as Canisius notched a 92-88 victory. Baron went 10-for-24 from the field and knocked down 18-of-19 free-throws, establishing a single-game record for free throws made in the Times Union Center. Baron became the first Canisius player since December of 1978 to score 40 or more points in a game. Baron also grabbed 10 rebounds for the fifth “double-double” of his career. Baron played in all 55 minutes in the triple overtime win at Siena, and he averaged 46.5 minutes in the two games. It’s the fourth time this season that Baron has been named MAAC Player of the Week.

MAAC Rookie of the Week

KHALLID HART, Marist

R-Fr., G, 6-2, 180, Newark, Del./The Sanford School

The MAAC Rookie of the Week is red-shirt freshman Khallid Hart of Marist.  Hart averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game in three games for the Red Foxes. He shot .553 (21-for-38) from the floor, .611 (11-for-18) from three-point range and .769 (10-for-13) from the free-throw line. At Quinnipiac on Feb. 10, Hart tied for the team lead with 21 points, hitting 8-of-11 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from three-point range, and added five rebounds and four assists. Against Siena, he led Marist with 16 points, hitting 3-for-4 three-point FGs, and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. At Monmouth, Hart scored a career-high 26 points while shooting 9-for-18 from the field, 4-for-9 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Hart tied his career high with six assists, and also contributed five rebounds and three steals. He played 125 of his team's 130 minutes this week.
