Filicia, Bright, Silfer Earn MAAC Softball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week

Lauren Filicia - Fairfield

So., OF, San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines  

The MAAC Softball Player of the Week is Lauren Filicia. Filicia helped the Stags to six wins in eight outings, hitting .615 for the week with 16 hits in 26 at-bats. The outfielder had a hit in every game, including six multiple-hit games. She also added 11 RBI and recorded two doubles, a triple and four stolen bases. With seven runs scored, Filicia played a role in 19 of the team’s 41 runs scored. Against MAAC opponents last week, Filicia batted .650 (13 hits in 20 at-bats) with 10 RBI and six runs scored. Fairfield won five of six MAAC games and split a pair of non-conference games, including a victory over local rival Sacred Heart.

Pitcher of the Week

Amy Bright - Manhattan  

Jr., P/OF, Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius

The MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week is Amy Bright.  She allowed just two runs over 21 innings, going 3-0 in three appearances.  On Wednesday, April 9, she pitched seven innings of shutout relief in the Jaspers’ 12-inning, 6-5 win over Wagner.  Bright gave up four hits and three walks while striking out four to pick up the victory.  Then in a 3-1 win over Canisius on Saturday, April 12, she tossed a complete game three-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks.  Bright capped her week by scattering six hits and two walks while striking out three in a complete game 2-1 win over Niagara on Sunday, April 13. For the week, Bright had 13 strikeouts and a 0.67 ERA.

 

Rookie of the Week

Lindsey Silfer - Canisius

Fr., C/DP, 5-8, Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse

The MAAC Softball Rookie of the Week is Lindsey Silfer. The Canisius freshman hit .583 (14-for-24) with three doubles, a home run, three RBI and six runs scored last week in eight games for the Golden Griffins. She had at least one hit in all eight games to extend her hitting streak to 11 games, tied for the team lead this season. Silfer has reached base safely in 12-straight contests. In the team’s eight games last week, she had five multi-hit games, highlighted by her career-high three hits in a win 10-7 at St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, April 9, and her home run in the second game of the Griffs’ non-league twinbill at St. Bonaventure was the first of her collegiate career. For the week, the Cicero, N.Y. native raised her batting average by 74 points, and she posted a slugging percentage of .833 to go with an on-base percentage of .630.
