For the second time this calendar year, Siena Athletic Communications received recognition for creative content produced by the department, as part of the 9
th Annual Education Digital Marketing Awards given out by the Education Digital Marketing Awards (EDMA).
The athletic communications department received a "Silver Award" in the category of "Diversity Campaign" as part of three total honors that Siena College received institutionally for creative content produced across campus.
The award given to Siena Athletics for "Diversity Campaign" was based off of a collaboration between Siena Athletic Communications Assistant
Joe Mixie, Siena College Assistant Vice President for Communications and Public Affairs
Kelly O'Donnell, and Assistant Director of Marketing & Video
David Etzler. The project, released in February 2021 as part of Siena's "Strengthening the Bonds of Racial Justice" campaign, included a video and article that told multiple stories of how Siena Men's Basketball promoted diversity and inclusion within its program during the mid-20
th century, when segregation and racial injustice ran rampant within American culture.
The honor marks the second straight year that Siena Athletics has had content win an EDMA award, with the Athletic Communications department taking home a "Gold Award" in the category of "Digital Video: Over 2 Minutes" and a "Silver Award" for "Social Media Content – Campaign" last winter. Siena College also garnered a "Silver Award" for "Virtual Reality" for its
Siena College Virtual Tour, as well as a "Merit Award" for "Microsite" for its Siena College Class of 2025 Microsite.
The Education Digital Marketing Awards recognizes the best educational website, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media, and social media. Overall, there were 37 categories and 14 groups that were judged by the EDMA.
