Monmouth Gets Fourth Win; Canisius, Manhattan, Niagara Lose by Four or Less

The Monmouth women's basketball team secured its second consecutive road victory after defeating NJIT, 62-53, in a non-conference game on Wednesday night. Three straight 3-pointers by Stella Clark to close out the first half sparked a 21-4 run for the Hawks that spanned over seven minutes and gave Monmouth a double-digit lead that proved to be insurmountable. Clark finished with a game-high 19 points and sophomore guard Kaci Donovan contributed 14 points on 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-5 from beyond the arc.

Canisius closed the final 2:22 of game action on a 16-6 run, but the Griffs' comeback fell short as Youngstown State prevailed, 69-66, at the Koessler Athletic Center in non-conference women's basketball action Wednesday night. Senior guard Erika Joseph scored a career-high 16 points for Canisius, while sophomore guard Dani Haskell scored all 14 of her points in the second half. Joseph went 6-for-8 from the floor for Canisius (2-6), which included a 4-for-5 mark from 3-point range. Haskell had five rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals to go along with her point total.

Manhattan College was narrowly defeated in a tough road contest against cross-town rival Fordham University, 65-63. A back and forth final quarter had the Jaspers trailing as many as eight, but back to back three-pointers by junior guard Dee Dee Davis would give Manhattan a one-point advantage with just over five minutes remaining in regulation. Davis would put on a show in front of her hometown scoring a season and career high 27 points while adding eight rebounds. Freshman forward Petra Juric recorded a season-high eight rebounds.

Angel Parker scored a career-high 29 points, but the Purple Eagles couldn't complete the comeback against Xavier, falling to the Musketeers 82-78, at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Angel added eight steals and six assists in the loss, while Aaliyah Parker scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high five rebounds off the bench for the Purple Eagles. Niagara recorded a season-high 77 field goal attempts and a season-best 21 steals.
