Manhattan Hires Thomas O’Brien As Assistant AD For Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer

Riverdale, NY - Manhattan College Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Marianne Reilly has announced the hiring of Thomas O'Brien as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine & Head Athletic Trainer. In this position, he will oversee the athletic training efforts of the department's 19 Division I sports and its student-athletes.

"The Jaspers are excited to have Tom join our department as Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine," said Reilly. "Tom's credentials, enthusiasm and positive attitude will create a welcoming environment for our student-athletes as we provide the best possible treatment and care for each of them."

O'Brien arrives in Riverdale after spending three years at Fordham University, including the last two years as the Associate Head Trainer, and worked directly with the men's basketball and volleyball teams.

During his time with the Rams, he wrote and maintained Fordham's Sports Medicine Policies and Procedures Manual, and created an Atlantic 10 Athletic Trainers database of message boards of emergency action plans.

"I would like to thank Marianne and the rest of the hiring committee here at Manhattan College for this opportunity as Assistant AD for Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer," said O'Brien. "I cannot wait to build upon past successes here at Manhattan College. Go Jaspers!"

O'Brien has also worked with the United States Basketball Association, serving as an athletic trainer for the National 3x3 Pre-World Championship Training Camp and International Tournament.

His collegiate athletics career began as a graduate assistant for St. John's University for two years from 2016-18. O'Brien also has experience worked as a certified athletic trainer for the Long Island Nets of the NBA G-League.

A 2016 graduate from Dominican College with a degree in athletic training, O'Brien attained his master's in sports management from St. John's in 2018.

O'Brien is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and New York State Athletic Trainers Association, as well as the College Athletic Trainer Society.
