Men’s Swimmer of the Week:
Alexey Belfer, Fairfield
Jr., Espoo, Finland, Ruusutorppa School
Alexey Belfer won two individual events and was part of both winning relay teams to give the junior four victories at the Fairfield Invitational. Individually, Belfer touched the wall first in the 50 free (meters - 23.11 ) and in the 100 free (meters - 51.97). He set the Invitational record in the 50 free by 0.6 seconds and set the Invitational standard for the 100 free by 0.37 seconds. He was also part of the relay teams that placed first in the 200 medley relay (1:45.06) and the 400 free relay (3:31.83).
Men’s Diver of the Week:
Sean Binning, Rider
So., Annandale, VA, W.T. Woodson
Binning won the 1-meter diving event at the Broncs' dual meet against Seton Hall with a score of 290.40. Binning was also second in the 3-meter event with a score of 270.15. Both scores are best in the MAAC so far this season.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week:
Erini Pappas, Fairfield
So., Phoenixville, Pa, Phoenixville Area
Erini Pappas was a four-time winner at the Fairfield Invitational, taking the individual top spot in the 100 and 200 back as well as the 200 IM. She also was part of the 200 medley team that set the Fairfield Invitational record by a full second. She completed the 100 back in 1:05.06 in the final and the 200 back in 2:20.53. Pappas also took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.90 and was part of the 200 medley relay team that captured first in 2:01.13.
Women’s Diver of the Week:
Lia Oppenheim, Fairfield
So., Sudbury, MA, Lincoln-Sudbury
Lia Oppenheim placed second in the 3 meter dive with 223.35 points, just 1.85 points off the top spot. She also took fifth place in the 1 meter by scoring 201.55 points through the six optionals at the Fairfield Invitational.
The 2023 MAAC Men's & Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships return to the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College (ECC) in Buffalo, NY for the 12th consecutive year. The four-day meet co-hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University will take place from Wednesday, February 8 through Saturday, February 11.
