Canisius’ Bolender, Janson, Minto, and Marist Gibbs Win MAAC Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

Men’s Swimmer of the Week:
 Archie Minto, Canisius
So., Burley in Wharfedale, England, Ilkley Grammar School
 
Sophomore Archie Minto got off to a strong start to the season picking up six total first-place victories on the weekend. Minto picked up a pair of victories in each of the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM events. Minto swam a weekend best 49.61 in the 100 fly, 1:50.28 in the 200 fly and 1:54.80 in the 200 IM.
 
Men’s Diver of the Week:
Ethan Gibbs, Marist
Fr., Long Beach, CA, St. John Bosco
 
Ethan Gibbs had a strong outing, winning the 1-meter & 3-meter diving events in the season-opener win against Canisius. Gibbs had a 214.88 score at 1-meter, and a 236.03 3-meter score.
 
Women’s Swimmer of the Week:
Lana Janson, Canisius
Fr., Cape Town, South Africa, DF Malan Hoerskool
 
Freshman Lana Janson opened her collegiate career with six total first-place victories over the course of the weekend, including a program record in the 100 breast. In just her second collegiate meet, the Cape Town, Africa, native swam a 1:05.15 in the 100 breast event against Binghamton, breaking the record which was initially set in the 2016-17 season. Additionally, Janson earned a pair of victories in the 100 breast, 200 breast and 200 IM. The freshman swam a weekend best 2:23.52 in the 200 breast and 2:08.54 in the 200 IM.
 
 
Women’s Diver of the Week:
Adriana Bolender, Canisius
Gr., Youngstown, NY, Lewiston Porter
 
Graduate diver Adriana Bolender opened the 2022-23 campaign with three first-place finishes on the weekend. Bolender earned the top spot in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives on Saturday versus Binghamton. The Youngstown, N.Y., native earned a score of 229.65 in the 1-meter and 233.33 in the 3-meter, respectively, which are both career-highs.
 
The 2023 MAAC Men's & Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships return to the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College (ECC) in Buffalo, NY for the 12th consecutive year. The four-day meet co-hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University will take place from Wednesday, February 8 through Saturday, February 11.
