EDISON, NJ (Oct. 21, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the promotion of Administrative Fellow, Samuel Watkins Jr., to Interim Director of New Media for Communications.
“I’m delighted to promote Sam to Interim Director of New Media for Communications,” said MAAC Associate Commissioner, Hamilton Cook. “Sam quickly adapted to the conference office and took on key responsibilities when he first arrived at the MAAC as an Administrative Fellow in August. His work ethic and attention to details made this an easy decision for me to elevate him and I look forward to having him as a full-time member of the staff.”
In this position, Watkins will assist with all aspects of media relations at the MAAC, which includes press announcements, social media, and maintaining maacsports.com. In addition, he will assist with conference award processes, maintain conference statistics, and serve as the liaison for MAAC sports information directors.
Watkins, joined the MAAC in August as one of its Administrative Fellows. In that position, he helped the MAAC with its day-to-day operations, marketing, content development, championship operations, and development of the MAAC brand.
As an Administrative Fellow, some of Watkins’ responsibilities included managing Student-Athlete of the Week and Player of the Week award releases. His tasks also included creating and managing the social media content for eSports and updating the MAAC digital archives.
Prior to joining the MAAC, Watkins served as a Media and Events Intern at Queens College (CUNY), where he worked under the Assistant AD of Communications and Operations.
A native of New Rochelle, NY, Watkins, earned his Bachelor’s of Science from Howard University, where he majored in Political Science and was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. In May of 2022, he earned his Master’s of Science in Sport Management from Adelphi University, with a concentration in Athletic Administration.
At Howard, Watkins held various roles in the Men’s Basketball program, spending time as a walk-on, as well as serving as a team manager.
