Fairfield’s Stewart, Tonole, Pappas and Gaulin Win MAAC Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

Men’s Swimmer of the Week:
Joseph Stewart, Fairfield

Joseph Stewart won all four of his races during a pair of dual meets against Providence and Holy Cross. Against the Friars, the sophomore touched the wall first in both the 400 free (4:03.90) and the 200 fly (2:07.40). In the Holy Cross meet, Stewart swept the two events once again with a winning time in the 200 free (1:53.20) and the 400 free (4:07.36). Stewart also helped the Stags win the 200 free relay against both Providence and Holy Cross in addition to assisting with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay against Providence.
Men’s Diver of the Week:
Sam Tonole, Fairfield
Sr., Lunenberg, MA
Sam Tonole won all four diving events over the weekend beginning with the top spot in the 1 meter with a score of 2:51.70 and a repeat performance in the 1 meter with a score of 207.75 against Providence. He responded with two more victories the next day as he tallied 277.05 points in the 1 meter dive against Holy Cross before posting 231.30 points in the 3 meter event later that day.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week:
Erini Pappas, Fairfield

Erini Pappas helped the Stags sweep weekend competitions against Providence and Holy Cross by posting four individual first-place swims as well as a second-place finish. She started the weekend by taking first place in the 400 IM (5:02.57) and the 200 back (2:20.18) against the Friars. Pappas was in the water for three events the next day versus the Crusaders, taking a first-place finish in the 200 free (2:09.56) and the 200 IM (2:23.18) in addition to a runner-up finish in the 200 back (2:19.13). She also was part of the winning relays for the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay against Providence as well as the 400 medley relay against Holy Cross.
Women’s Diver of the Week:
Alexis Gaulin, Fairfield
Jr., Plainville, Mass, Bishop Feehan High School
Alexis Gaulin picked up a pair of victories against Holy Cross after collecting 275.07 points in the 1 meter dive and 229.58 points in the 3 meter dive on Saturday. The day before, Gaulin competed in a pair of 1 meter events against Providence, taking 2nd place with her score of 175.87 followed by a fourth-place finish in the 1 meter with 177.60 points.
The 2023 MAAC Men's & Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships return to the Burt Flickinger Center on the campus of Erie Community College (ECC) in Buffalo, NY for the 12th consecutive year. The four-day meet co-hosted by Canisius College and Niagara University will take place from Wednesday, February 8 through Saturday, February 11.
