EDISON, NJ (May 18, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced the appointments of two MAAC Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) positions. Delia McDade Clay of the Siena College has been voted in as the MAAC SAAC Chair and Roshan Kalikasingh from Marist College has been selected as the MAAC SAAC Social Justice Committee Chair. Both positions are two-year appointments that commence at the conclusion of the 2022 school year.
“It is an honor to have been selected by my fellow student athletes to be the next MAAC SAAC Chair,” said McDade Clay. “I have been involved with MAAC SAAC since my freshman year of college, and I could not be more excited to channel three years of valuable connections and lessons into the creation of lasting, positive change for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and all of the student athletes that are proud to belong to it!”
McDade Clay will be assisted by the MAAC SAAC Vice Chair Hunter Embury of Marist College in all aspects of oversight related to conference SAAC operations and initiatives. Her responsibilities will include attending in-person MAAC SAAC meetings, being present on all monthly conference calls, assisting the MAAC SAAC Vice Chair and conference SAAC administrator with the creation of meeting agendas, and assisting the MAAC SAAC Vice Chair with all communication to institutional SAAC executive boards. As the President of Siena’s SAAC, she has organized events and campaigns surrounding mental health, voter advocacy and campus equity.
“Being the MAAC SAAC Social Justice Chair means that I will be able to represent the student-athlete body coherently and effectively,” said Kalikasingh. “I will be the voice of student-athletes in this conference and do whatever it takes to ensure diversity, inclusion, and equality are truly represented in athletics. I will work to ensure that student athletes will be comfortable participating in sport despite race, age, gender, etc. I seek to be open-minded as well as proactive on initiatives and ideas for the MAAC. Social Justice is something that society has been trying to achieve for decades and I am honored to be able to help support and achieve this great cause.”
As MAAC SAAC Social Justice Committee Chair, Kalikasingh will lead the committee in the promotion of diversity, inclusion, and equality. His duties will include empowering the voices of minority student-athletes, allowing student-athletes to raise issues for group discussion, and raising awareness and educate others on meaningful causes that create long-lasting social change, and working with MAAC coaches and administrators in promoting a more inclusive conference. Additionally, Kalikasingh will serve on the Committee on Athletic Administration Diversity and Inclusion Subcommittee, attending in-person SAAC meetings and assisting McDade Clay and Embury in all SAAC operations and initiatives.
