Baseball 6/9/2022 11:00:00 AM Canisius' Steffan Named CoSIDA Academic All-American Canisius graduate student Mike Steffan has been named a Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America selection, the organization announced on Wednesday. A first-team pick at the designated hitter position, Steffan is the eighth Golden Griffin baseball player and the first since Connor Panas in 2015 to be recognized. "Mike has worked extremely hard to achieve this level of success," Canisius head baseball coach Matt Mazurek said. "To see him get recognized for both his on-field play and his work in the classroom is truly deserved." A native of Williamsville, N.Y., Steffan recently completed his master's degree in finance after earning his undergraduate degree in the same discipline from the College. A four-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree, Steffan has already accepted a position working with the Microsoft Corporation in the state of Washington. On the field, Steffan started in all 50 games he played for the Griffs in 2022, helping the team claim its fourth MAAC Tournament Championship. He paced the squad this season with 59 RBI, while also ranking third in base hits (69) and batting average (.342). Steffan logged three games with five RBI, the most by a Canisius player since Panas in 2015.
