Cross Country 7/11/2022 12:00:00 PM Canisius Named Tyler Scheving Head Cross Country/Track Coach Canisius Director of Athletics Bill Maher announced Monday that Tyler Scheving has officially been named the newest head coach of the Canisius cross country/track programs. Scheving took over the programs on an interim basis last December. Under Scheving's guidance, multiple members of the Golden Griffin indoor track teams set personal best during the 2022 season. Additionally, both the men's and women's 4x800 relay teams set program records during the ECAC/IC4A Championships in March to conclude the indoor track campaign. The Griffs continued their strong performances in the outdoor track seasons, highlighted by a pair of silver medalists, as Marissa Silba and Andrew Perrault both took home silver at the 2022 MAAC Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in their respective 3,000-meter steeplechase events. "After evaluating his hard work as our interim head cross country/track coach, Tyler further proved that he was the best candidate for our program during the search process," Maher said. "This past year had its share of challenges and, as Tyler worked through those, he always kept his focus on helping our student-athletes train and compete. That focus helped both the men and women have one of their more successful track seasons for the College. I look forward to that continuing in the fall during our cross country season and I am pleased that his first head coaching opportunity will be here at Canisius." "I am grateful to Canisius for trusting me to lead this program, and I am excited to continue to build upon the momentum from last season," Scheving said. "This program has a storied history and I am honored to be part of it. The men and women of these programs have been making colossal strides over the last few years, and we plan to continue to build upon that success in the upcoming season. I am extremely proud of this team and I look forward to seeing them continue to grow, both as student-athletes and as leaders within the Canisius community." Scheving arrived on Main Street in 2019 after spending the two previous seasons as a member of the University at Buffalo cross country/track and field coaching staff as an assistant. While on staff at Buffalo, Scheving helped mentor the Bulls first-ever track athlete to participate in the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Prior to being on staff with the Bulls, Scheving was a Mid-American Conference Champion for Buffalo, where he competed in both cross country and track for five years. During his career Scheving was a three-time conference champion, with two distance medley relay titles in 2014 and 2015, culminating with an individual title in the 800-meter race in 2017.
