EDISON, NJ (Sep. 12, 2022) – Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s soccer combined to go 6-2-3 over the weekend led by wins from Fairfield University, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Quinnipiac University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. In addition to the winning record over the weekend, MAAC teams combined to outscore the opposition 24-11.

Two goals in the last 10 minutes Friday propelled Mount St. Mary's men's soccer to a 3-1 victory over the Bucknell Bison. Junior Jesus Salazar put the Mount ahead off a free kick near the top of the box at the 87th minute. Two minutes later, graduate student Ondrej Soukup fired a goal from a fair distance away, pocketing the shot in the right corner to ensure the Mount’s victory. Ethan Russell finished the game with four saves to pick up his third win on the season.

Canisius College played Little Three rival St. Bonaventure to a 1-1 draw in men's soccer action Friday evening at the Demske Sports Complex. Sophomore Reilly Boyer netted his first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute when senior Inder Thind placed a pass into the box to Boyer, who deflected the ball down to junior Luke Szablewski who then corralled the ball, touching it off to Boyer who turned and fired the goal. The Bonnies would score the equalizer in the 59th minute of the match.

Manhattan College played to a 1-1 draw against Columbia on Friday. The Lions scored first via a Manhattan own goal in the first half. In the 49th minute, Gunnar Studenhofft got into the box and drew a penalty kick. Henry Hamilton beat Columbia keeper for his second goal as a Jasper to knot the game up at 1-1. Manhattan was the aggressor in the match, recording six of its seven shots on goal, to just one shot on goal by Columbia.

Niagara erased a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw with Binghamton Friday night in non-conference men's soccer. The Purple Eagles got goals from Nuukele Gboe and Rodrigo Almeida in the 75th and 85th minutes, to equalize the game. Gboe found the back of the net first with his left foot, cutting the Bearcat lead in half. Then, following an initial shot from Gboe, Almeida would find the back of the net on the rebound to tie the game at 2-2.

The Rider University men's soccer team fell at Garden State foe Rutgers, 2-1, Friday night. The Scarlet Knights scored twice in a span of less than three minutes in the 36th and 39th minutes. Adel Al Masude scored in the 51st minute off a free kick to beat Rutgers keeper Aurie Briscoe, halving the deficit. Rider would put another pair of shots on target in the 73rd and 74th minutes, but were unsuccessful.

The Marist men's soccer defeated Florida Atlantic on Saturday night by a final score of 2-0 to remain unbeaten on the season. Richard Morel shined for the Red Foxes, scoring both goals in the victory. In the 35th minute, Jared Juleau sent a cross through the box to Morel who found the back of the net to break the tie. In the 89th minute, Morel secured the Red Foxes' third win with his third goal of the season. Goalkeeper Sam Ilin recorded four saves in goal and completed his second clean sheet of the season.

Quinnipiac men's soccer earned a 2-1 victory over Central Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon in Hamden, CT. Tomas Svecula scored first to get the Bobcats on the board with help from Jason Budhai who centered the ball in front of the box for Svecula to rocket the ball under and to the right of the CCSU keeper in the 26th minute. After CCSU tied the contest, Alex Holle broke the tie, as Erik Langwagen found Holle who fired one home off his right foot to put the Bobcats ahead 2-1. Karl Netzell saw 90 minutes of action in net and made 10 saves for the Bobcats.

The lone tally came in the 80th minute as Conlan Paventi tucked a rebound from a Mikkel Fodstad shot into the net to put the Peacocks up 1-0. The Fairfield Stags picked up their second straight victory away from campus with a 2-1 decision over Bryant University on Sunday. Raz Amir registered his first goal of the season in the 28th minute. He came back just 14 minutes later to double the team's advantage with his third goal of the season, converting a pass from Rasmus Sorensen-Rejnhold. The pair of goals would prove to be enough for the Stags after only surrendering one goal to Bryant in the second half.

Siena dominated on Sunday afternoon, claiming an 8-0 rout over Hartford at Hickey Field. The eight goals were the most for the program since 1995, the second-most goals for the team at home, and the third-most goals in a game ever for Siena. The Saints also had 13 different players record a goal or assist in the win. Siena recorded a single-game record 39 shot attempts, with 14 shots on goal. Twin brothers Thomas and Frederic Storodegard each scored a pair of goals to lead the Saints, while four other players scored one goal in the victory. The win was also the team’s second shutout of the year.
The 2022 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 6 through 13. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 6, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 10, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 13.
