EDISON, NJ (Sept. 12,
2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and Commissioner Rich Ensor have announced the hiring of Whitney Swab as Senior Associate Commissioner/Chief Operating Officer.
Swab will manage all aspects of MAAC Championships with an emphasis on marketing, media relations, and broadcasting operations, supervise in-season and postseason competition for 21 conference-sponsored sports, and oversee staff in the conference’s Championships department. In addition, she will aid in the development and execution of the conference’s marketing plan and broadcast operations, including the growth and maintenance of the MAAC’s agreement with ESPN for school productions.
"We are excited to welcome Whitney back to the MAAC," said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. "Whitney is a proven leader who has had much success throughout her career. Whitney’s knowledge and expertise will elevate our championships department and she will be a tremendous asset to our young staff."
Swab returns to the MAAC by way of Manhattan College, where she was the Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Relations and Senior Women’s Administrator since October 2021. In that role, Swab led the external operations department, which included strategic planning, marketing, athletic alumni relations, media, revenue generation, ticketing, and sponsorships. Swab had previously served as the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing with Manhattan from August 2017 through October 2021, where she oversaw the athletic department’s marketing efforts, developed visual brand identities for specific sports programs, and executed external communications with the media and athletic community.
"I am excited to continue my career in college athletics with a return to the MAAC to serve as the Senior Associate Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer,” said Swab. “I want to thank Rich Ensor and Jess Grasso for providing me with the opportunity to serve the MAAC membership. I look forward to building strong relationships with the administration of the 11 institutions in the MAAC and to support the student-athletes and coaches in their pursuits of academic and athletic excellence."
Prior to Manhattan, Swab was the Associate Director for Athletic Advancement at the University of UMass Lowell, where she coordinated the United in Blue campaign fund strategies for retention and acquisition of donors, oversaw the Basketball Courtside Club, and managed athletic advancement while participating in strategic planning associated with the University's development campaigns.
Swab began her career in college athletics at the MAAC, where she worked for six-plus years from 2008-14, first as the Director of Marketing and Sales and Director for New Media for Broadcast and Marketing before being promoted to Assistant Commissioner for New Media in November 2012. During her time with the MAAC, Swab increased brand awareness through social media, communications, and video and marketing strategies and was the liaison between the conference and all 11 member schools.
A 2008 graduate from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in sports management, Swab has also served as the Assistant Tournament Director for the opening rounds of the 2010 and 2013 NCAA Basketball Tournament in Buffalo, NY.
