EDISON, NJ (Jan. 14, 2023) – Friday night’s full slate of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) men’s basketball action produced a pair of home victories by Iona University and Quinnipiac University, while Manhattan College, Marist College, and Siena College each earned road wins on the night. Siena remains atop of the MAAC standings with a perfect 6-0 mark, while Iona sits in second-place at 5-1 and Quinnipiac used its fourth straight league win to jump into a three-way tie for third place.

Iona held off Fairfield 75-69 in MAAC men's basketball play at the Hynes Center on Friday night. The Gaels continued their success on its home floor, winning their 21st straight game at the Hynes Center, while improving to 6-0 at home this season. In MAAC play, Iona improved to 5-1, while Fairfield fell to 2-4 on the year. The two teams battled in a first half that saw 15 lead changes and six ties, with the Stags holding a two-point, 34-32 advantage at the break. The final lead change came at 17:59 in the second half, which sparked an 8-0 Iona run, a lead it would not relinquish leading to the six-point victory. A quartet of Gaels led the way in double figures with Nelly Junior Joseph recording his fifth-straight double-double with the 17 points and 10 boards. Daniss Jenkins scored 16 points, Anton Brookshire posted his second straight double-digit effort with 12 points, and Berrick JeanLouis stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks. For Fairfield, TJ Long led all-scorers with a game-high 18 points, Jake Wojcik scored 16 points and reached the 1,000 point mark in his collegiate career, while Supreme Cook was the third Stag in double figures with 14 points.

Manhattan picked up a 62-57 road win over Mount St. Mary’s in MAAC action on Friday night in Emmitsburg, MD. The second straight MAAC win for the Jaspers improved the team’s record to 4-3 and placed the team in a three-way third-place tie, while the Mount dropped to 2-4 on the season. Mount St. Mary’s led by seven at the break and maintained an eight-point advantage well into the second half. With 8:44 remaining in the game and the Mount ahead by eight still, the Jaspers would open up a 22-9 run the remainder of the night, securing the comeback road victory. Ant Nelson scored a game-high 20 points, followed by 14 points each from Josh Roberts and Logan Padgett to lead Manhattan. George Tinsley scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Mountaineers in the game and Dakota Leffew added 10 points.

Marist earned a 76-58 win at Canisius in a MAAC men's basketball game on Friday night at the Koessler Athletic Center. The win was the second of the season in the MAAC for the Red Foxes (2-4), while they snapped the Golden Griffins two-game winning streak (2-5). The lead changed hands four times in the opening half, but Marist came out on top with a two-point edge at break. With 12:51 remaining, Marist took the lead for good, and held an advantage as large as 20 points (twice) in the half before winning by 18. Patrick Gardner scored a game-high 26 points, 19 coming in the second half, to lead the Red Foxes. Noah Harris (14) and Javon Cooley (13) also reached double digits in the win. For Canisius, three players scored in double-figures, led by redshirt-freshman Tahj Staveskie, who had a team-high 18 points, while Jamir Moultrie added 12 points after and TJ Gadsden chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.

Quinnipiac defeated Saint Peter's by the final score of 58-51 at M&T Bank Arena on Friday night in Hamden, CT. The Bobcats earned its fourth-straight MAAC win after an 0-3 start, jumping to 4-3 on the season, while the Peacocks record went to 2-6. In a defensive battle, Quinnipiac outscored Saint Peter’s 36-28 in the second half to earn the win in a tight contest that the Bobcats led in for 19:00 compared to 18:46 for the Peacocks. Paul Otieno recorded a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds in the win, while both Matt Balanc and Ike Nweke added 10 points apiece. The Peacocks were led by a game-high 18 points from Jayden Saddler and 10 points from Isiah Dasher.

Siena edged Niagara on the road, 70-64 on Friday night at the Gallagher Center. The Saints extend their conference-leading current winning streak to seven games, improving to a perfect 6-0 in the MAAC while remaining in first-place in the league. The Purple Eagles, which has now dropped two in a row, falls to 4-3 in the MAAC. Siena outscored Niagara 40-27 in the second half and used a late second half surge, to lift the team to the road victory. The Purple Eagles led 60-59 with just over three minutes to play, but the Saints scored 11 out of the meeting’s final 15 points to close out the night. Javian McCollum tied his career-highs of 27 points and eight assists while Jackson Stormo scored 20 points and Andrew Platek finished with 13 points on 3–of-4 shooting from long distance for Siena. Three Purple Eagles reached double figures, led by Noah Thomasson's 19 points, Aaron Gray finished with 16 points, and Sam Iorio added 13 points.
